5 Must Do Things To Help Speed Up Recovery From Neck/Back Pain

1. Start an Anti-Inflammatory Diet ASAP!

This would consist of Eliminating Gluten, Soy, Corn, Sugars, Dairy, Peanuts and possibly Eggs!

2. Get into a Daily stretch routine-stretches should be held for a minimum of 50 seconds

The most important areas to concentrate on are the Hamstrings and Achilles for lower back pain & sciatica

Neck & Shoulder pain-stretch the neck muscles by bringing your chin to your chest and slightly pressing your head forward with your hands.

Continue this with bringing your right & then your left ear towards your shoulder, next rotate your chin as far to the right & then the left-using your hand slightly to increase the stretch.

3. If you are getting Adjustments make sure X-Rays of the area have been taken to determine the curve angles! Many times curves especially in the Neck & Lower Back have been abnormally loss as a result of previous traumas ie, Car Accidents, Sports Injuries, Falls, Gymnastics, Cheerleading, Soccer, etc.

4. Icing the area of pain becomes critical to helping to reduce inflammation but also the pain intensity. Lower Back icing should be done on your back with knees bent. Neck pain icing can be laying down on your back or sitting.

5. Avoid falling asleep in a recliner-unfortunately recliners will cause the head & neck to fall forward or to the sides-aggravating the neck-thus causing more pain.

Specific strenghtening/rehabilitative exercises should not be started until pain/discomfort have improved by about 50%-this avoids the possibility of a set back.
